Preface As I have tried to grasp Elden Ring‘s cosmology, I find myself once again faced with the mystery of death. Maybe it is because the dominion of the dead is antithetical to our own existence, but I seem to always struggle to wrap my head around it in these medieval fantasies. That does make […]
Common across the Lands Between is one statue depicting a cloaked man with a sword, the figure decorating bridges especially. The name of Saintsbridge in particular clarifies that this character is a saint — seijin (聖人) more literally referring to a “holy man” — and therefore carries the sword as some sort of warrior hero […]
Preface I have seen far too much attention placed on Godwyn. While it is a shame when a major character is dead before we are able to meet, we don’t need any more of this one. As is, the character has an invasive presence felt throughout the game. If you know where to look, you […]

Hansel and Gretel best captures the life lesson: beware of greedily indulging in motherly affection, lest you end up devoured. Sound advocacy for moderation from the best-intentioned mother hens, but what if you flip it on its head? Let […]

Even when fate wasn’t necessarily on their side, the pair still came out on top in the end, with relatively meager impediments. Whatever their personal drama, history had looked kindly on their efforts to build and maintain a kingdom. Not […]
Preface I often joke about needing another decade before finishing an exhaustive analysis of Elden Ring. For a world as broad as in this game, getting a grasp on everything is a trying task. There is so much history, so much cosmology, that sifting through it can feel like a never-ending abyss. It is just […]
The Fire Monks are supposed to keep watch from their mountaintop, and yet we find them in Liurnia. With camps to both the east and west, the warrior monks lead the thorn sorcerers in patrols around their area, the red tents and Prelate-head braziers confirming that these encampments weren’t taken over from local Cuckoos. They […]
